Cows have been dominating the political discourse in India for a while now. When the whole of the country is veering around the bovine, former supreme court judge Markandeya Katju has come up with a characteristically versatile take on it.
“I recommend to Bollywood film producers to make a film called 'The Planet of the Cows' [on the line of Planet of the Apes] in which cows conquer and enslave Indians. I am sure it will gross ten times more profits than Bahubali,” he recently wrote on his Facebook page.
He gave the suggestion after reports said the Uttar Pradesh government was planning to start a cow ambulance service. Slamming the decision, he wrote another post saying, “In a state where the human masses hardly get any proper healthcare, it has started an ambulance service for taking ill and injured cows to veterinary doctors for medical treatment.”
“I think it will next arrange for three-bedroom flats for cows, maternity leave, special AC buses for their travel, holidays for them in Indian hill stations, etc. Hari Om.”
Justice Katju is no stranger to controversies and is known for speaking out his mind. Earlier, justice Katju had criticized Supreme Court judges saying that they committed an error in the Soumya murder case. However, he later gave an unconditional apology after the apex court issued a show cause notice asking 'why contempt proceedings should not be initiated against him.'
