Sharjah: With the temperature peaking in the UAE, the authorities have allotted break time from 12:30pm to 3pm for labourers working outdoors.

A campaign would also be held in Sharjah to make people aware of the need to protect themselves from the scorching heat. The health campaign with the slogan 'Your protection is our goal' would be held from June 24-26 at various centres. Around 2,000 labourers would take part in the three-day event.

The inaugural events would be held at the premises of the new mosque near the intersection of Emirates Road and Muweilah Road at 9am on June 24 (Monday). Around 400 labourers, expert doctors and paramedical personnel would take part in the event. Representatives of those supporting the campaign - Sharjah Labour Standards Development Authority, Sharjah municipality, Sharjah Police, Sharjah Charity International, Emirates Red Crescent, Sharjah Co-operative Society, Sharjah Broadcasting Authority, and media partners Sharjah TV, Malayala Manorama, Malabar Gold and Diamond would be also present.

500 labourers every day

Classes and workshops will be held to train labourers on surviving the heat. The campaign would be held at two centres every day. It would be held at Sharjah TV and Sharjah TV centre initially. More than 500 labourers will take part in the event at all centres. Further treatment and free medicine would be given to those who need it. Those who are ill would be provided treatment at the hospital. Also, fruits, fruit syrups, drinking water and cool drinks would be distributed. More than 500 volunteers from 11 government departments, who are supporting the campaign, will also take part in the event. The campaign is from 9am every day.

Cool scarf

The labourers taking part in the campaign would be provided with cool scarves. These scarves is said to offer protection from heat for 8 to 10 hours. Such scarves were distributed last year too, making the campaign a huge success.
