Sixth seed Sai Praneeth, who has been out of form of late, went down 21-16, 16-21, 18-21 to Japan's Yu Igarashi in a match that lasted an hour and 11 minutes.
Taking the court first, Sindhu, seeded fourth, took just 27 minutes to get the better of Indonesia's Lyanny Alessandra Mainaky 21-9 21-7 in a one-sided match.
It is Sindhu's second semifinal of the season, following a last-four finish at the India Open last month.
Momota dug deep to fight back from 16-11 behind in the second game to force a decider.
PV Sindhu lost 7-21, 11-21 to world no. 3 Okuhara in a lop-sided contest.
World No 5 Sindhu reached the semifinals at India Open and Singapore Open, besides a couple of quarterfinal appearances at Indonesia and ABC but a title has remained elusive.
