Kannur University Vice-Chancellor Gopinath Ravindran said even a legal opinion was sought before the selection of Priya Varghese.
Dr Priya Varghese's appointment to the Associate Professor post at Kannur University was withheld by the High Court earlier this week.
CM’s private secretary K K Ragesh’s wife Priya Varghese's first rank allocation in the list for Associate Professor’s appointment is just one among the botches.
While ordering a re-examination of her appointment, the court made it clear that further decisions on the issue will only be taken after the probe.
While the Congress and BJP welcomed the verdict, the CPM said the decision would have long term adverse impacts on calculation of service periods for promotions, etc and would give rise to a lot of misinterpretations.
Both Priya Varghese and Joseph Scaria were among the candidates. Though Dr Scaria topped the list with a research score of 651 points, Priya scored 32 in the interview stage to pip the former (30).
Stating that no university is above the norms of the University Grants Commission, the HC found Priya lacking the required teaching experience to be considered for the post of associate professor.
In a Facebook post that was later deleted, the college lecturer made fun of a court remark criticising her teaching experience.
The court stated that working as an NSS coordinator or digging holes does not count as teaching experience.
Expressing displeasure over the affidavit submitted by Kannur University, the HC asked how did the screening committee evaluate Priya's eligibility documents.
