The PCB has now allowed the use of plastic containers for packing food items and plastic covers weighing above 50 microns for packing grocery items.
As the plastic ban has been implemented it will be the environmentally conscious brands that will have the upper hand due to increased awareness.
In addition to the plastic items banned by the Centre, the inspections would also cover other products banned by the state as per the orders issued in January, February and May 2020.
The ban will be made applicable for the sale, stocking, distribution and export of single-use plastic products like straws, cups, plates and other plastic varieties such as thermocol or polystyrene.
Those still using plastic bags in violation of the norms will be slapped with a penalty of Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000.
