Project entails construction of 530-km rail corridor along entire length of the state to run semi high-speed trains
The SilverLine Project envisages the construction of a greenfield semi high-speed rail corridor from Thiruvananthapuram to Kasaragod. It is a pet project of the Left Democratic Front State Government of Kerala.
Kerala's Tourism Minister has claimed Vande Bharat is not an alternative for the state government's proposed SilverLine semi-high-speed project.
Sreedharan feels Kerala will not have the benefits of the high-speed train service unless the tracks are upgraded.
“That is the glory of the Vande Bharat Express,” the actor said in Sasthamangalam in Thiruvananthapuram, adding the Prime Minister will speak out the rest.
Meanwhile, several political leaders, including the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee vice-president V T Balram, have come out ridiculing the appam sale prospects.
The march, which started from Kanhangad in Kasaragod district, will conclude at Thiruvananthapuram after 33 days, on February 28. On each day, the march will be led by a ‘jatha captain’.
In fact, the Railway has already leased out 4.93 acres on the western side of the Kannur railway station where Platform 1 is located for building a shopping centre and other commercial purposes.
The Chief Minister also said that people who own lands earmarked for acquisition to construct the rail corridor need not be concerned as their properties have not been acquired.
Systra, which prepared the detailed project plan for the rail corridor, was paid Rs 29.29 crore.
