The centuries-old Avanamcode Saraswathi Temple near Aluva in Kerala's Ernakulam district attracts hundreds of believers during the Navratri festivities. The temple finds a mention in several legends and is said to be one among the 108 Durgalayas. As per the legends, Adi Sankaracharya was initiated into the world of letters at this temple.
The Navratri celebration is the biggest festival of the temple. Several people take part in the musical fest held as part of Navratri celebrations at the temple. Malayalam actor Dileep too shares a special bond with the temple, which is close to his home. During his childhood days, his books were kept at this temple for pooja during the Navratri. Dileep and his wife actress Kavya Madhavan had offered prayers at the temple and inaugurated the Navratri celebrations earlier this week.
The temple is located near the Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery.
Every day is auspicious
Vidyarambham (or the beginning of learning) is held on Vijayadashmi, which marks the end of the nine-day festival, in Kerala.
However, Avanamcode Swayambhoo Saraswathi temple is one of the rare temples in Kerala, where every day is considered to be auspicious to initiate a child into the world of letters.
Due to this speciality, several people arrive with their children to initiate them into the world of letters.
The temple is also noted among the believers for Vazhipadu (ritual worship). Among the various Vazhipadu, Naavu Mani Narayam is the most noted. If this offering is made, then it is believed to benefit those children with speaking disabilities. With the goddess’ blessings, it is believed that the children would speak and learn well.
The 10-day festival at the temple would end on October 8.
