LBS College Union organised another inter-department sports tournament as the current academic year winds up. Men's Doubles Badminton Championship was the latest sports event to be held the Kasaragod-based institution.

Rafeek and Lasheen from the fourth-year Mechanical Engineering department beat the rest of the doubles team to bag the championship trophy.

The tournament, which was held on the college badminton court, was held on April 16 and 17, with the final matches stretching into night.

The semi-finals were held as 3 sets of 21 points each. The best two teams in the semis qualified for the final.

In the final, an exciting match between Rafeek-Lasheen and Adarsh-Sidharth was on display. But the winners were decided early on since Rafeek-Lasheen easily won the first set, 21-8. The second set was a bit more competitive, but they held on, beating their opponents with a fair score of 21-16, grabbing the Doubles Championship title fair and square.

Henceforth, Adarsh and Sidharth of the fourth-year Electronics and Communication Department became the runners-up. Dhanraj and Rashid from third-year Computer Science Department won the second-runner’s up title by beating the fourth team that played in the semis.

Sports Captain Rafi Payotta managed the event. Since the tournament spanned late into the night, the trophy awarding ceremony was postponed to the next working day, when Principal Dr. Mohammed Shekkoor T will be awarding the winners for their accomplishment.

The next sports event at the college is rumoured to be an All-Kerala Staff Football Tournament to be conducted by the staff and faculties in order to raise funds for charity.

The LBS Staff team recently beat all the students' teams in the El Ruido Cricket Tournament that was conducted on the campus a few days back.
