Thiruvananthapuram: Classes for eighth-standard students in Kerala have resumed from Monday, a week after schools reopened across the state after a long shutdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Though the Kerala government had earlier decided to start classes of standards 8, 9 and 11 from November 15, those of standard 8 were advanced in view of the National Achievement Survey which is taking place on November 12.
(National Achievement Survey or NAS is a national large-scale survey of students' learning organised by the Union Ministry of Education, Government of India. It is carried out to ascertain the effectiveness of school education.)
The classes of ninth and Plus-One (11th-standard) students will, however, begin from November 15.
The government had earlier directed that before the commencement of the classes meetings of Parent-Teacher Associations should be convened mandatorily.
The resumption of eighth-standard classes in CBSE and Kendriya Vidyalayas where the PTA meetings had not taken place, have been postponed to November.
