Kozhikode: A holiday has been declared for all educational institutions in Kozhikode district on Saturday in view of the recent Nipah virus alert in place.

However, PSC and University exams will be conducted as per the schedule. Tuition centres and coaching centres must also not function for the next two days.

Institutions can arrange online classes, said District Collector and Chairperson of District Disaster Management Authority A Geetha.

The district collector had declared a holiday on Thursday and Friday (September 14 & 15). “The holiday will apply to professional colleges as well. Anganwadis and Madrassas will also be closed on the two days," she said in a press release on Wednesday.

A Nipah virus threat has gripped Kozhikode yet again with five cases, including two fatalities reported in the district in the past few days.

Three cases, including a healthcare worker, are active in Kozhikode.
