Charlie effect: Youth turns Good Samaritan on birthday A still from the movie 'Charlie' and Sanesh K. Samon

Movies, arguably, are the best social tool when it comes to inspiring people. While Mollywood have had umpteen movies of this ilk, none of it can boast of making a wave like Martin Prakat's Charlie, which has become a sensation among the youth.

And, now it seems the character played by Dulquer Salmaan is inspiring many youngsters to find their moral compass and do good for the humanity.

After watching the movie Charlie, a Piravom native was so touched that he decided to do something good on his birthday. Sanesh K. Samon, who celebrated his 20th birthday on Thursday, took time off to go and donate his blood and join an organ donation campaign. Sanesh also went ahead to have have his birthday dinner in an old age home.

“While many liked and admired Dulquer Salmaan's costumes and beard from the movie, I fell for the character played by the actor,” said Sanesh, who is pursuing his second-yesr BCA degree at Rajagiri college, Kalamassery.

“Once you see the movie, you feel like doing something good for the society. It was the character that motivated me to do something different on my birthday.”

“I, along with a few friends, planned to do something out of respect for Lt. Col. Niranjan, the NSG commando who was killed in the Pathankot. Thus we went ahead and donated blood at Sunrise hospital, Kakkanad. Later, we spend some time at an old age home and being with them reminded me how important it is to be with the elderly people who are alone. I would like to thank the Charlie team for presenting such a wonderful movie.”

Ask him, which was the most touching scene in the movie, Sanesh replies, “When Charlie (Dulquer Salmaan) helped Kani (played by Aparna Gopinath) bringing her back to life, that was really motivating.”

Sanesh also mentioned how after doing such things a group of friends came forward to him wishing to do more of such activities.

Hats off to Martin Prakkat for motivating people to find their Charlie-self!
