Kannur: The Kerala School Kalolsavam will see a major change in the way it is conducted in the coming years, if the proposals that came up in meetings attended by education minister C. Raveendranath and top officials are implemented.
Speaking to Onmanonrama exclusively, director of public instructions (DPI) K.V. Mohankumar said that the education department is examining the possibility of holding zonal youth festivals after revenue district Kalolsavams. As of now, the winners of revenue district Kalolsavams are eligible to participate in the state school Kalolsavam. In addition to the winners, an umpteen number of appeal entries are making it to the state festival, throwing the Kalolsavam schedule into chaos.
The zonal youth festivals will help in cutting down the number of appeal entries, DPI said.
The proposals are:
1. After revenue district Kalolsavams, at least three zonal youth festivals will be held. From there, only the 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners will be allowed to take part in state Kalolsavam.
2. Kalolsavam manual can be abolished and instead a Kalolsavam Act brought in. Under the Act, a top authority, like the high court, will have the power to take all the calls regarding Kalolsavam.
3. An expert panel will re-evaluate performances using footage of the event when a participant/team files an appeal over a result in district festival and will send only the deserving ones to the state Kalolsavam
4. Those who are filing appeals after revenue district festivals will be asked to perform again before a judging panel of experts. The panel will decide if the students can participate in state Kalolsavam.
All the above mentioned are proposals. No decision has been taken so far to do away with revenue district Kalolsavams, DPI told Onmanorama.
