Kottayam: MG University is planning to create a startup centre, believed to be the first in India by a university. The centre would offer support to develop ideas of students into enterprises. The initiative is to be called Students Startup Centre.
An expert committee has recommended the nine winning projects of Yuva Mastermind programme to the new startup centre.

While inaugurating the exhibition of the projects, M G University Vice Chancellor Dr Babu Sebastian had said that the start-up centre would review, enhance, develop and market innovative ideas of students.
The state government has offered Rs 1 crore for the first phase of the initiative.
The new centre is to be based in Ernakulam and it would be led by University public relations officer, G Sreekumar. The centre would help students with marketing, advice and patents and also facilitate meetings with experts in the field. Students would also be offered with Internet and computers.
The facility is expected to start functioning in March.
