In Pune, a city characterized by significant congestion and pollution, maintaining a sustainable lifestyle proves to be quite challenging. The reliance on electricity is so profound that living without it for even a single hour is not feasible. Consequently, residents face high electricity bills each month. Suneet and Shilpa are leading by example, demonstrating an energy self-sufficient lifestyle amidst a community that is gradually adapting to these practices.

When solar energy is used for electricity generation, it typically powers only a limited number of fans or lights. However, Shilpa and Suneeth have taken a different approach. They operate even the most energy-consuming appliances in their household using solar energy. As a result, they have managed to reduce their electricity expenses by nearly 90 per cent.

In addition to four air conditioning units, a washing machine, a water heater, and three water pumps, the kitchen appliances operate on solar energy. This solar power is also used for charging the electric scooter. The grid system has a peak capacity of 15 kilowatts and is supported by 20 batteries.

With a highly efficient solar energy system in place, they can enjoy their daily lives without any compromises, using all facilities while significantly reducing their electricity bills.

They say that since they began relying on solar energy, they have not experienced any power outages. In contrast, neighbouring houses with similar facilities incur monthly electricity bills between Rs 6,000 and Rs 10,000. However, Suneeth and Shilpa's maximum bill amounts to less than Rs 1,500, of which Rs 500 is allocated for the fixed charge of the meter connection.
