What sperm count may help men live past 80? Study reveals

In the recent past, many reports have noted that sperm count has fallen by more than 50% across the world in the past four decades. Various doctors have also said that there is over 60% decline in male fertility too, in the recent years. Many markers like obesity, stress, delayed childbearing or parenthood, sedentary lifestyle, alcohol consumption and smoking have also been quoted as reasons for the decline in semen quality and overall male reproductive health. Meanwhile, new research has quoted the sperm count required for men to live past 80 years. The study, led by a senior researcher at the Copenhagen University Hospital in Denmark, was published recently in the renowned scientific journal Human Reproduction, which is one of the leading publications in the world that features studies on IVF, sperm quality and reproductive medicine. The study apparently tracked around 80,000 men for 50 years for their findings. Here's what it says:
What's the key count?
As per the study, men who produce more than 120 million motile sperm (capable of swimming) per ejaculation lived two to three years longer than those with less than five million. This means that a man with top sperm quality lives up to 80.3 years, while those with weak sperm live about 77.6 years. Apparently, poor sperm quality is often an indicator of health issues and can be considered an early warning to stay alert. Dr Niels Jorgensen, who led the study, also said that they are planning to study whether early deaths from heart diseases or cancer are also linked to poor sperm quality.
How to fix a low sperm count?

6) Stay away from smoking, drinking, lubricants during sex, medications that might affect fertility (your doctor can help identify them), toxins in pesticides
7) Wear loose-fitting innerwear, as increased scrotal temperature can affect sperm quality.
