Kochi: Forensic experts say college student Abhimanyu died instantly with a single stab to the heart, the work of a professional killer aimed specifically at killing rather than scaring the victim. The police said the target spot and the accuracy of the attack shows this wasn't the killer's first attempt.

The knife used was specially crafted to kill, one that inflicts lethal wounds to internal organs and leads to massive bleeding.

The condition of Arjun Krishna, 20, who was stabbed along with Students Federation of India (SFI) leader Abhimanyu, continue to remain critical, hospital authorities said, adding that he is still in the danger zone. A native of Kottarakara, he has sustained a deep wound to his liver.

Three of the accused in the murder have been remanded to police custody by the Ernakulam magistrate court. The arrest was recorded earlier of Farooq, 19, from Mallapally in Pathanamthitta, Bilal, 19, from Kanganzha in Kottayam and Riyas, 31, from Fort Kochi. The search for nine co-accused has been extended to other states too. Lookout notices will be issued for them soon.

Surveillance cameras show that the 12 were in the campus on the day of the murder. More people are involved in the plot to murder Abhimanyu.

Authorities have suspended Farooq and another accused, A I Mohammed, who are students of the college. Mohammed, a final-year student of the Arabic degree course, has gone into hiding. The police had found that he was the one who led killers from outside into the campus. The murder weapon was brought in from outside, but indications are available that the gang had stored weapons in the campus too.

The injuries inflicted on Abhimanyu and friend Arjun suggest that the attack was well-planned, unlike attacks that occur from reactions on the spur of the moment in political confrontations.

The police is seeking to find the lodge where the goons stayed in the city. Farooq looked trained to face police interrogation. Ernakulam Central Circle Inspector Ananthalal leads the probe.
