Kozhikode: A transgender has been found dead near KSRTC bus stand here under mysterious circumstances. Kannur native Shalu’s (39) body was found in a lane off UK Sankunni Road yesterday morning.

Shalu had called transgender organisation ‘Punarjani’ to complain about an attack on her Sunday, said its president Sisili.

CCTV images from Sunday night show Shalu walking with a man just 5 metres away from the spot she was found. Shalu’s neck has bruises that suggested a cloth was used to asphyxiate her.

City Police Commissioner AV George and North AC AV Pradeep reached the spot. Nadakkavu Police have begun probe.

Fingerprint experts and dog squads collected evidence. The body has been moved to the medical college hospital. Punarjani has said it will claim the body if relatives do not come forward. A final decision will be taken after a meeting with the Department of Social Justice.
