It looks like the BJP had overplayed its Vizhinjam politics. The party could have allowed Prime Minister Narendra Modi to do the political messaging. In fact, the PM did so with aplomb. He warmed the hearts of Latin Catholics in Kerala's southern coast by speaking touchingly about Pope Francis. And he spoke highly of Kerala, calling it the haven of communal harmony. He even ended his speech with the slogan 'Jai Keralam Jai Bharath'. When Modi could have easily done a good job, the BJP still preferred to force its state president on the stage. And Rajeev Chandrasekhar's early arrival and selfie from the dais invited sneers, not cheers.
