Ann Rose Mathew and Sreelakshmi Haridos have made the Keralites proud by securing admission to the National Defence Academy in its first batch for women. Among the 1.75 lakh women who wrote the national-level entrance test, only 19 were eligible. Among them, Ann grabbed the 7th rank Sreelekshmi got the 12th rank.
Male candidates from Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam districts can take part in this rally.
The Indian Air Force had on June 24 started its recruitment process under the scheme and it received 2.72 lakh applications till Thursday, the ministry said.
The plea said the Central government, contrary to the constitutional provisions and without having approval from the Parliament and without any gazette notification, quashed the century-old army selection process and imposed the scheme on the country.
This facility would be available only for those who were unable to continue their training despite getting admitted to NDA or the Indian Naval Academy due to health issues.
National Defence Academy is the joint defence service training academy of the Indian armed forces where cadets of Army, Navy and Air Force undergo their pre– commissioning training. Those who wish to pursue a dream career in the defence forces as commissioned officers can apply to the NDA.
Applauding TMR's efforts, Rajnath Singh emphasized that a country progresses only when the government and civil society work together.
The Supreme Court has recently dismissed the centre’s stand that women would be allowed to enter NDA from May next year.
The entrance exam is scheduled on 5 September.
