The elephant was tranquilised on Sunday morning and caged by afternoon.
In his latest escapade, tusker Padayappa destroyed the glasses of a mini-lorry parked on the roadside and an autorickshaw stationed near a house. It also damaged the butter beans crop in farms.
The case has been charged under the Wildlife Protection Act against Chudala (42) aka Das, who is a contractor at the factory division of the Kadalar Estate of the Kannan Devan Company.
