The 32-year-old Victorian strolled off the Melbourne Cricket Ground with a stump and astonishing figures of 6/7 on debut as England's batsmen capitulated for 68 before lunch on day three.
Mitchell Starc came within a whisker of a hat-trick and debutant quick Scott Boland grabbed another two wickets to leave England 31/4, still trailing by 51 runs.
The 32-year-old, who plays his domestic cricket at the MCG, will become the first indigenous Australian Test player since Jason Gillespie played his last match in 2006.
