The Supreme Court on Friday said states and universities cannot promote students without holding final year exams by September 30.
Permission was given for new courses at the 42 self-financing arts and science colleges of the Kerala University. Also, more seats were allotted for 10 self-financing colleges.
The hashtag 'speakupforstudentsafety' has been trending since Friday morning with at least 2.25 million posts on the microblogging site.
The bench said the deadlines may be altered but exams should be conducted.
More than 3,000 students in the Gulf had registered for the test. Only very few students, who have quarantine facilities at home, have returned to the state in the last few days.
The Education Minister’s remark comes amid a growing chorus for the postponement of the medical and engineering entrance exams in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
The PSC will take a final call during a meet on Tuesday. The date of the next test is also likely to be announced soon.
All other applicants need to complete the candidate login before the trial allotment day of August 24.
Many state management exams have also been cancelled due to fear of the spread of COVID-19.
