The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an 'orange alert' and predicted 'very heavy' to 'extremely heavy' rainfall across several districts of Assam over the next few days.
The frequency of extreme weather events such as floods and heat waves is projected to rise manifolds in India in the future due to climate change.
A yellow alert has been declared in five districts on Monday and in four districts on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Trees were uprooted in several places owing to heavy rain and wind.
The storm was powered by two overlapping phenomena - an immense airborne stream of dense moisture from the ocean called an atmospheric river, and a sprawling, hurricane-force low-pressure system known as a bomb cyclone.
Authorities have banned travel along the Munnar-Vattavada road following the landslide near Kundala Dam.
A low-pressure belt has formed over the Bay of Bengal and it is likely to develop into a cyclonic storm.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert across the state for the next three days.
IMD officials also informed that the southwest monsoon will completely withdraw from Kerala by October 20.
The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has asked people to be alert and not to trivialise the showers even if there is no lightning.
