Authorities said that the revenue earned by the trains conducting services in Kerala was improving.
There is also a proposal to reroute the Thiruvananthapuram - Chennai and Kochuveli - Dehradun weekly express trains, which are now conducting services via Kottayam, along Alappuzha.
According to the authorities, new trains need to be urgently introduced connecting Ernakulam with Lucknow and Puri.
With the doubling of tracks, more express trains can be started from Kottayam.
Tejas is a semi-high speed service introduced as part of the privatization of the Indian Railways and the Mangaluru-Coimbatore train will run on all days, except Mondays.
All railway zones have also been advised to hike the platform tickets from Rs 10 to Rs 50 in a bid to discourage gathering of large crowds.
All long-distance mail or express and intercity trains originating between 4am and 10pm on March 22 will also remain cancelled.
The railways had earlier objected to Kerala's demand for extending the Amritha Express, by citing that there wasn't sufficient time to fill water and clean the train.
Railway officials said the trains were identified last night and the decision will be effective from March 20 until March 31.
Reducing travel time, the overnight train runs at convenient timings.
