The Central government has declared seven days of national mourning to honour the legacy of the former Prime Minister, who passed away at the age of 92.
A native of Ramapuram in Kottayam, GM Pillai began his journey with Singh in 1998 when the latter assumed the role of Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha.
India will observe a seven-day mourning period, with government events cancelled today.
