Bathery: A field of colourful marigolds and sunflowers awaits visitors at Bathery Town in Wayanad district of Kerala during the Onam holidays. While the marigolds have already bloomed, the sunflowers will be ready by the first week of September, said authorities at Bathery Municipality.
It was the Haritha Karma Sena under the municipality that cultivated the flowers on an area of two acres at Kalluvayal, opposite the Water Authority office. The Karma Sena spent Rs three lakh for the cultivation with loans from the Kudumbashree. The marigold saplings were brought from Guruvayur, said authorities. As many as 55 Karma Sena members were involved with the cultivation.
Selfie spots and seats have already been set up in the field. “A food court will also come up soon,” said the coordinator of the project Ansil John.
Visitors will be allowed into the flower field from August 24 and an entry fee of Rs 20 will be charged. Residents of Wayanad and nearby areas in Kerala need not rush to Gundalpet in Karnataka to enjoy the sights of flowers in full bloom, said the authorities at Bathery Municipality.
