Kottayam: The two officials placed under suspension, after 154 blank undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) certificates of the Mahatma Gandhi University had gone missing, have no direct role in the episode, an inquiry conducted by the Joint Registrar found.

However, it is mentioned in the report that both Sebastian P Joseph, former Section Officer, and Manoj Thomas, the newly appointed Section Officer, were careless in safely keeping the certificates, sources said.

The varsity had earlier suspended both of them.

Syndicate to meet

The University Syndicate meeting to be held on August 11 will take up the inquiry report, submitted to the Registrar, for discussion. The rules stipulate that notices be issued at least 10 days before the convening of the syndicate meeting. Initially, it was decided to hold the meeting tomorrow, but the notices were not issued.

When certain members of the syndicate pointed out the rules in this regard, the notices were issued to convene the meeting on August 11.

It was on June 20 that 54 PG certificate formats of the University were found missing. Following this, two officials were suspended and the rest of the staff at the section were transferred out.

The University had also lodged a complaint with the Gandhi Nagar Police Station. The police probe, though, is still in the preliminary state.
