Palakkad: If government officers considered their workplace too holy for the common man, they should think again. The Kerala government has ordered the village officers across the state to ensure that visitors are not required to remove their footwear before entering the offices.
Even if someone walks in barefoot for old times’ sake, the officers will be duty-bound to tell them that the practice is no longer appreciated.
The revenue department additional chief secretary issued the order after coming across the practice which sought to give an air of superiority to the bureaucrats. The people approach the village officers for many of their day-to-day requirements but many of them leave their footwear at the doorstep as if they were entering a temple.
The government order will be communicated to all village officers through the district collectors concerned.
The other government departments are also expected to follow suit.
