Crude bombs go off in IUML office building, search yields weapons
The bomb went off on the fourth floor of the building complex near the new bus stand around 1.30 pm on Tuesday.

Iritti, Kannur: A high-intensity blast rocked the building where the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) office functions in the heart of the town. What could have led to a major tragedy was averted as the building was empty at the time of the incident.

A police search following the explosion found three country bombs, three swords, six iron rods and two wooden sticks. The police have locked up the building, and put it under guard.

The bomb went off on the fourth floor of the building complex near the new bus stand around 1.30 pm on Tuesday. Four cars parked below the building were crushed totally as parts of the building came crashing down. The police found that the blast occurred near the northern wall of the building where the conference hall of the party office is situated.

The weapons and bombs were detected on the southern side of the building, stored in bags on the terrace and under the staircase. A dog squad was also deployed for the search.

The police confirmed that an 'icecream' bomb had exploded in the CH Towers itself. Cases have been registered under the Explosives and Arms Act.
