Vrindavanam: Moved by stories of misery that floated around in the wake of recent floods in Kerala, two siblings from Vellayil in Pathanamthitta district have donated the entire amount in their piggy banks to the Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.

Class-8 student Aiswarya and her brother Dhanush of Class 2 handed over their savings to headmaster K P Kaladhara Kurup of SCV Higher Secondary School at Kottanad, which comes under the Mallappally block of Pathanamthitta district. The donation was made during the assembly session. The school authorities had exhorted its wards to contribute to the fund. At a Parent-Teacher Meeting later, school manager Manoj Charalel reiterated the request.

Back home, Aiswarya, a student police cadet, had proposed the handing over of the amount. At this, Dhanush insisted he, too, wanted to contribute. Their uncle P Ajith had gifted the money in 2015 ahead of the Vishu festival. Their parents, Sajeev and Anjana of Aiswarya Nivas at Vellayil, said they are proud of the students' gesture.
