Those who build grand mansions on extravagant budget seek professional help from engineers and architects and begin the construction only after preparing a proper plan and estimation. However, the common man often relies on their acquaintances in the locality who may have a bit of experience in construction for preparing the budget, plan and estimation. It doesn’t mean that they lack the expertise just because they are not professionals. But, they often follow a regular formula while preparing the plan that makes all the houses look similar.
More than the client’s needs, ideas and wishes, they may force their own ideas and experiments on the house.
While preparing the plan of the house, it must be noted that the interiors should receive good amount of sunshine and cool air. If all the bedrooms are built in the corners, then two sets of windows could be added in every bedroom. So, the rooms could receive fresh air that blows from two different directions.
In case, a bedroom has only one window due to the unique features of the plot, then the window should be installed on the east side or the west side to receive sunshine. If the window wall is on the north or south side, then the rooms wouldn’t receive good sunshine or air. The rooms would then feel stuffy and dark even during the day.
The living hall shouldn’t come between the bedrooms in the house as it may block the flow of air and light. If the hall is designed like this then the main wall should be on the east or west side.
While designing the bedrooms, it would be better to switch from the old square method (10 x10, 12 x12) to rectangular ones (8 x 12, 10 x 14), without increasing the square feet, to make the rooms spacious. The sitting arrangements in the sit-out, the slabs in the work area and the bathroom commodes could be built as per the height and weight of the people who live the house.
