Most people enjoy popping knuckles out of habit, while some do that when they are stressed. Many crack their knuckles habitually and often unconsciously to enjoy the popping sound or the relief. However, the latest studies warn against continuous knuckle popping, which might lead to arthritis. When you crack your knuckles, the popping sound comes from the gas bubbles released from the synovial fluid, a lubricating fluid in the joints.

Doctors say that popping knuckles may not suddenly lead to arthritis; they even add that both do not have any obvious connection. However, there is a risk of uneasiness and inflammation in the joints due to constant knuckle popping. So, the doctors advise that giving up this habit and giving proper rest to the hands and legs is better. Meanwhile, the report was published in the Arthritis and Rheumatology magazine.

Will knuckle popping lead to arthritis?
When you pop your knuckle, the nitrogen in the joint suddenly gets released. Constant knuckle cracks could cause the hands to lose their grip, adversely affecting their movement and functioning. Besides, it might also cause inflammation in the soft cells in the fingers. Applying force to pop the knuckles initially increases the risk of mild inflammation, followed by severe finger pain. The doctors advise to seek treatment if the pain persists. Exercises for joints and fingers, maintaining healthy body weight, relaxing your fingers if you type on the keyboard regularly and refraining from lifting too much weight, as well as following a balanced diet, are some ways to keep arthritis away.
