Thrissur: Shops and business establishments downed shutters and vehicles were mostly off the road in Guruvayur and Manaloor towns in Thrissur district following a hartal called by BJP to protest the killing of an RSS worker at Nenmeni.
The police imposed prohibitory orders in Guruvayur and Pavaratty considering the seriousness of the issue.
23-year-old Anandan was hacked to death in broad daylight allegedly by CPM workers at nearby Nenmeni on Sunday around 1.30pm.
He was rushed to a hospital, but his life could not be saved, the police said.
The victim was an accused in a case relating to the murder of CPM worker, Fasil, in 2013. The Brahmakulam native was out on bail.
On Sunday afternoon, the assailants rammed their vehicle on to Anand's bike and as he fell on to the road, they brutally attacked him.
While the BJP has blamed CPM for the murder, the Marxist party in a statement on Sunday denied its role in the incident.
The funeral is expected to be held Monday afternoon. The BJP is also observing a protest throughout the state against the gory incident.
Kerala has been witnessing a cycle of violence, involving the workers of the CPM and BJP-RSS.
