Malappuram/Thiruvananthapuram: More nepotism allegations have been raised against Local Administration Minister K T Jaleel over misuse of power.
Youth Congress (YC) has charged that Jaleel’s wife N P Fathimakutty was appointed as the principal of Valanchery higher secondary school in Malappuram district violating norms. According to YC state secretary Siddique Panthavoor, Fathimakutty, was posted disregarding the conditions regarding the seniority as per the Kerala Education Rules.
V K Preetha, another teacher of the school, has the same seniority as Fathimakutty. The rules say that when such a situation arises, the date of birth should be taken into account for promotions. If the rules had been followed, Preetha should have been made the principal, said Siddique. However, neither the school manager nor the higher secondary deputy director considered this matter.
Fathimakutty was appointed as principal on 01-05-2016 and the government cleared the posting on 26-07-2016. Though Preetha submitted a complaint against this order,
no action has been taken, said Siddique.
Anil Akkara MLA has also pointed out several appointments in Thrissur-based Kerala Institute of Local Administration (KILA) which he alleged were done violating rules at the behest of Jaleel. One among the people who was favoured out of the way by the Minister was a member of the SDPI, according to Anil. Ten others were similarly given jobs in KILA flouting all rules, he charged.
Meanwhile, minister Jaleel told reporters that the appointment done in Minority Development Corporation was only temporary. The term of the post is only one year, he said.
Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala has again called for Jaleel’s resignation from the post of the Minister. “The role of Jaleel has become clearer in the illegal posting done in Minority Development Finance Corporation with its chairman revealing that the corporation had not sought relaxation in eligibility criteria,” said Chennithala. He warned that a strong agitation would be launched if the chief minister tries to protect Jaleel.
