Kozhikode: A youth was found murdered near Ramanattukkara flyover here on Sunday. While the police have yet to confirm his identity, the deceased is suspected to be a 31-year-old native of Kondotty. Manorama News reported that the deceased is Malappuram's Neeradu native Shibin. Police took three men including Malappuram native Mohammed Ijas (25) on suspicion of involvement in the murder.
As the victim’s face was severely bruised beyond recognition, identifying the body proved to be a challenge for the police. The authorities are awaiting final verification from the victim's relatives to confirm his identity.
"We are yet to confirm the identity of the deceased. We are waiting for the relatives to arrive for the final verification," a police officer told Onmanorama.
It is assumed that an altercation between Ijas and the deceased while consuming alcohol on Saturday night led to the murder.
"We are questioning Ijas and the other two individuals who were with him at the time. It is learned that the deceased allegedly attempted to sexually abuse Ijas, which provoked him to attack the victim with a laterite stone," the officer added.
On Sunday morning, Ijas reportedly confided in a friend, who then informed the police. Following a search, authorities discovered the body by noon.
The mortal remains have been shifted to the mortuary at the Government Medical College Hospital in Kozhikode.
Speaking to Manorama News, the ward councillor stated that the body was discovered in an area frequented by drug abusers. The youth's body with a severely disfigured face was found around 2 pm on Sunday.
