Schools across Kerala are all set to welcome students for a new academic year that is set to commence on June 1. In many schools, preparations are in the final stage.
The standard of Kerala students is way behind the national average in many subjects. States like Punjab and Rajasthan have fared better than Kerala in the quality of teaching, the NAS report states.
In public schools, lack of attendance shouldn’t be a reason to bar a student from attending exams or promoting to the next class, until standard eight. All students should be promoted to higher classes until class eight.
This runs contrary to the provisions contained in the Central education policy which stipulates that a student should have reached the age of six years for joining Class 1.
