Not yet fully fit, Messi, along with Neymar and fellow new recruits Gianluigi Donnarumma and Sergio Ramos, did not make the match squad.
"It's an ambitious club. You can see they're ready to fight for everything," Messi told a news conference.
One Barca member filed complaints with a French court and with the European Commission to try to block any move by PSG to sign Messi.
Messi did not say what his immediate plans were, but French newspaper L'Equipe reported on Friday that he was set to join Paris St Germain.
A move to PSG would reunite Messi, who has officially been a free agent since July 1, with his former Barcelona teammate Neymar.
Ramos left Real last month after failing to reach an agreement to extend his 16-year stay in the Spanish capital.
City were dominant against PSG, who lost their heads in the second half and finished the semifinal second leg with 10 men after Angel Di Maria was sent off in the 69th minute.
Goals by Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez earned them a 2-1 comeback win at Paris St Germain in the semifinal first leg.
