KPCC President K Sudhakaran has sought stern action against Thomas for indulging in anti-party activities by attending the CPM seminar and making utterances that were detrimental to the interests of the party.
KPCC can only suggest a punishment for the veteran leader with the party High Command. Subsequently, the national disciplinary committee of the Congress, headed by A K Antony, will take a final decision.
When asked whether he had plans to jump ship to CPM, he told the media to wait till Saturday and that he will answer every question at the seminar.
The opinion of AICC disciplinary committee chairman, AK Antony, is crucial even if the KPCC may endorse an outright expulsion. Ironically, Antony and Thomas were close associates earlier.
K Sudhakaran displayed fine mediatory skills as he disowned neither the leader of opposition nor the trade union's state chief to resolve the issue.
Earlier, the AICC had advised Shashi Tharoor and Thomas to abide by the decision of the KPCC on the issue.
This was in response to opposition leader V D Satheesan's angry remark on March 29 that INTUC was not a feeder organisation of the Congress.
An official announcement regarding the decision to abort the restructuring process is likely in the meeting convened by the party's State chief K Sudhakaran on Saturday.
Basheer served as a member of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
Different groups in Congress have been opposed to restructuring the party.
