Thiruvananthapuram: With president Ram Nath Kovind laying the foundation for Technocity, more information technology companies have evinced interest in claiming a share of the fourth phase of the Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram.
Envisaged a decade ago, the project has finally been put on track to become an IT hub that could employ about a lakh people.
The park, which sprawls over 400 acres along the national highway, 4 kilometers off Kazhakkoottam, will be completed in 10 years.
The main tower with an area of 2 lakh square feet will be completed in two years.
The project is expected to cost about Rs 105 crore.
The state government expects to raise Rs 100 crore through an investment vehicle named Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB), while Technopark will fund the rest of the cost.
Technopark aims to turn the new park into a hub of cutting edge technologies such as cognitive analytics, financial technology, space applications, cyber security and e-mobility.
Companies in these focus areas are already in talks with the government.
The massive project has the potential to transform the Kerala capital into the largest IT hub of the country.
Technopark already offers about 50,000 direct employments. Technocity, just like the other phases in Technopark, benefits from its proximity to an international airport and a railway station.
Knowledge City
India’s first “Knowledge City” is coming up on 100 acres of Technocity. The first phase of construction includes two towers for the Knowledge City, apart from the main building of the park.
Kerala-based Suntech has started work on its campus two months ago. The construction is expected to be completed in one and a half years at a cost of Rs 150 crore.
The IIITMK campus will be inaugurated in January. Tata Consultancy Service has taken over 97 acres of land for its planned campus. The Kerala Academy for Skill Excellence (KASE) has also committed to start its campus in Technocity.
