Kochi: Pitching Kerala as a potential digital destination, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday inaugurated #Future, the first digital summit being organized by the state government here.

Pinarayi said the state was focusing on the development of not only physical infrastructure but also digital infrastructure.

""Kerala is soon transforming into an information technology and knowledge based society. As the next logical step we need to align the higher education sector in the state to ensure that our educated youth are provided with skills relevant to the emerging economy”.

Pinarayi said that state posseses a wide range of highly qualified and skilled human resources and world class physical and digital infrastructure that can attract emerging knowledge companies.

This global digital summit is a key step to showcase Kerala as a global information and digital technology destination, the CM said.

Though the summit has been projected as a brainstorming jamboree rather than an investors' meet, the chief minister's words made it clear that the government was aiming to woo potential investors in the field of latest technologies including artificial intelligence.

Pinarayi also drew attention to the vast investment the state has made as well as the initiatives taken towards transforming Kerala as a digital destination.

Due to the significant advances in information technology, revolutionary changes have come about in banking, health, tourism, transportation sectors, he noted.

“The rapid transformation we are witnessing in different industries will only intensify with the technological disruption that we are undergoing today,” Pinarayi said.

The state government was ensuring that the advanced information and mobile technologies were being used for the benefit of the common man.

The chief minister also launched mKERALAM, a mobile app, which offers 100 government services, at the event.

S D Shibulal, chairman, High Power IT Committee of the Kerala government ( V K Mathews, convener, #Future, M Sivsankar, secretary IT, Kerala, and Paul Antony, chief secretary, Kerala, addressed the gathering.

Christopher Mueller, chief digital and innovation officer, Emirates Group,delivered the keynote address.
