1 killed in Angamaly fireworks tragedy during church festival

Angamaly: One person died and four were injured in a pyrotechnics (fireworks) accident at the Mambra Assissi Nagar Chapel at Karukutty.

The accident occurred around 8.30 pm on Sunday when the fire spread to the room where the explosives were kept. According to reports, the explosives went off with a deafening sound.

The chapel was celebrating a two-day festival and the fire cracker show was arranged as a part of the culminating ceremony Sunday.

Twenty-year-old Simon lost his life in the tragedy. Meljo Paulose, Stephin Jose, Justin James and Joyla Biju were injured in the accident. Meljo and Stephin have been admitted to the Little Flower Hospital at Angamaly and the other two are being treated at a private hospital at Ernakulam.
