Most talked about Malayalam films of 2017 The year 2017 churned out movies of all genres to the audience.

The Malayalam film industry has had an eventful journey in 2017, churning out all genres of movies to the audience. Here is a list of the ten most-talked of Malayalam films released in the year. The list is not based on box office collections or critical acclaim but on their impact on the general psyche of Keralite audience. Also, the films are not listed in the order of merit.

1) Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum

Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum review: the good, bad and the ugly

Directed by Dileesh Pothan, the movie was definitely the most talked about trendsetter in 2017. The dark comedy had indeed explored the aesthetics of cinema in Malayalam. Though it was compared to Dileesh's previous flick Maheshishinte Prathikaram, Thondimuthalum... stood out for its unique theme and distinct narrative.

Even as Malayalam filmdom got embroiled in the shocking sexual assault on an actress and its aftermath, Dileep, one of the accused in the case, always threw up the name of his latest flick Ramaleela every time he was in the limelight. Directed by Arun Gopy, the film, the release of which was deferred several time, turned out to be a blockbuster. The film saw Dileep essaying a character of substance, different from the playful roles he has been donning for quite sometime.

Kunchacko-starrer Ramante Edenthottam: what to expect

The film couldn't send ripples during its release. But it started gaining kudos after it was long gone from theaters. Directed by Ranjith Sankar the film banks on an unusual storyline and a fresh backdrop. The film stars Kunchacko Boban, Anu Sithara, Joju George in the lead.

It is a perfect example of exhibiting directorial talent while reinventing an already successful flick in a different language. The film directed by Mahesh Narayanan, tells the story of an expat nurse caught in the middle of strife-torn Middle East region and her struggle for survival in the face of battle and bloodshed. Parvathy, playing the lead role in the film awed everyone with brilliant a performance. The film won the special jury award and actress Parvathy won Silver Peacock for the best actress for her outstanding performance at the International Film Festival of India.

Adam Joan is a dark thriller written and directed by Jinu Abraham. The narrative treads a path far removed from the usual Malayalam genre and hence provided a great amount of freshness. The film which stars Prithviraj also featured Narein, Bhavana and Lena in major roles.

The film directed by Sanal Kumar Sasidharan has always been in the news for all wrong reasons. Though the film was cleared by the Censor Board, I&B Ministry barred the film from being screened at IFFI. The incident sparked a controversy resulting in the resignation of several jury members and change of the title from Sexy Durga to S Durga.
