If you believe in standing out and being different, well this story is likely to inspire you to think out-of-the-box and put your skills to the ultimate test.

Reinventing – a passion

Vimal, who was a student of CUSAT, yearned to create new gadgets. He craved to concentrate his efforts towards that one innovation that could change lives. A hard-core techie, as many claim him to be, he chose to steer away from the usual and had teamed up with his friend Vijeesh to create unique innovations. "At college everybody continued to follow the instructions mentioned in our textbooks. Nobody dreamt of creating new things or doing something different. Thus, we chose to do so," said Vimal.

The team

Team Reinwo Team Reinwo.

As students Vijeesh and Vimal had participated in Tech Fests conducted across the country including IIT – M. Their interest in robotics and mechanics led to the creation of a fuel cell cars and a variety of mechanical devices. It was not long before the duo were joined by IITian Nitin and two other students of the CUSAT – Rizwan and Praveen. Thus, Reinwo had kicked off.

An all engineers zone

Reinwo is an organisation run by engineers who strive towards reinventing technology. Its founder Vimal is a student of Information Technology and is currently the CEO of the firm. The Co-founder Vijeesh looks into the product design aspects of the firm. Nitin, an alumini of IIT-M, is also a Co-Founder and is in-charge of the various aspects surrounding the firms business activities.

Praveen handles the firms Research and Development while Riswin takes care of the electronic aspects. Rizwan had given up his job at reputed companies to be part of Reinwo. Praveen, however, is a final year student at CUSAT and would soon be playing an active part in the firm upon the completion of his education.

The product

Hydgas Hydgas is a product invented by the team of Reinwo which uses hydrogen to cook food.

Reinwo has invented a machine that could produce hydrogen which would be used to cook food. The advantage of this product is that it is eco-friendly and would also help reduce the consumption of electricity.

The first prototype was installed at CUSAT on March 2, 2015. “It was easier for us to do so in CUSAT as we are alumini of the college. Based on the response at CUSAT, will proceed with the installation of more prototypes,” said Vimal. According to Vijeesh, the design plays a crucial role as well. “We hope to release two models. The commercial model will be bigger and more powerful. The compact model will probably be smaller, approximately 30m by 30m in dimensions, and could be used in households,” said Vijeesh and Vimal. While the current model is only partially powered by a Solar panel, they hope to create a model that would be completely powered by solar energy.

The product will be controlled with the help of an app which is being developed.

The marketing strategy

At present, the firm is working towards the installation of a few more prototypes. The team said that they have business plans and have chalked out marketing strategies which will be implemented only after a few trial runs.

The experience

Vimal Vimal, CEO, Reinwo.

Team Reinwo said that the StartUp Village has been extremely supportive in this regard. “We were able to meet many people. The success stories of other entrepreneurs are a motivating factor. We have learnt a lot. At first we did not have the slightest clue about business plans. But now we do. To those who wish to run their own StartUps, I would say – Try and Try again. Learn from you failures,” said Vimal.
