Bava

Picture these two scenarios. You are in a department store to buy a wallet and stumble across one loaded with Rs. 2000 notes. Or the new apartment you just moved into has a hidden chest in the drawing room, behind which you discover trash bags stuffed with cash. What would you do? Pay off a few bills? Fix your washing machine? Or would you get that Fossil watch you have been wanting for a long time?

But what about the little voice in the back of your head telling you that money doesn’t grow in attics or wallets? Someone probably lost or misplaced it, and they would appreciate having it back. Could you fight off the temptation to keep it and return the money?

Well, auto rickshaw driver Vellaloor Vadakathuparambil Abdul Rahiman (Bhava) did just that. When Bhava chanced upon a few currency notes on the road, he picked it up and returned to its rightful owner.

“It never crossed my mind to keep the money. It’s not mine keep,” he said.

It was on his way back home that Bhava found the cash. Although it was getting dark, Bhava waited at the spot, hoping someone would come in search of their lost wad of cash.

And boy, he was right. The woman who had lost the money was already searching for it on the road she had just taken to pick up her kids from school.

When Bhava noticed that the woman was scrabbling around in the grass, he asked her if she had lost something.

He couldn’t wait to return the cash to the woman, who was clearly elated to get back the money she thought was lost forever.

Interestingly, it’s not the first time Bhava was returning a lost object. There have been several instances where people left behind money and other belongings in his vehicle and every time, the honest driver promptly returned it all.
