Kochi: Four youngsters have been arrested for attacking leading Malayalam film producer Maha Subair, production controller Badusha and a hotel's security guard under the influence of alcohol in Kochi Tuesday night.

Twenty-four-year-old Antony Jerry from Varappuzha; Muhammad Isham, 24, a native of Kaloor; Carlton, 25, hailing from Edappally and Zedric Mendes, 22, a native of Ayyappankaavu, were the arrested.

They were charged with attempt to murder and creating ruckus in public after getting drunk. The four youngsters were remanded by a court till April 12 on Wednesday.

The arrested told the police that they were at the hotel for a party thrown by their friend Amalraj who returned from Bengaluru.

The police are on the lookout for 8 others, including Amalraj.

How it all happened

The gang unleashed attack on Subair and others under the influence of alcohol around 10 pm on Tuesday at hotel at Kathrikadavu in Kochi. They were at the beer parlor from noon and had consumed around 40 bottles of beer by then.

When their celebrations went out of hand, hotel security guards intervened. But the youngsters turned violent and brutally assaulted Prakash, a security guard. When others tried to stop them, the youths threatened to attack them using stones and sticks.

The production team of Jayaram-starrer Aakasha Mittayi, which is the latest film to be bankrolled by Subair, was staying at the hotel. When Subair arrived at the scene of confrontation, he was attacked using a 'No Parking' board. Subair, who suffered injuries behind his head and ear, fell unconscious.

Both Subair and Prakash have overcome critical stage and are under treatment.

Police said Antony Jerry was the one who attacked Subair using the board.
