Kochi: A drug supplier lured into a trap by an excise team in Kochi has confessed that he bought the narcotic substances from an agent in Goa.
Saneesh Sarvothaman was held with contraband including MDMA, a staple in rave parties. An excise officer in disguise had asked for a small quantity of drugs for a rave party but Sarvothaman was carrying narcotics worth Rs 84 lakh, indicating that the rave scene was still active in Kochi and surroundings.
The accused confessed that he brought the narcotic drugs in his father’s car from Goa, where he had made contact with an agent who went by the name ‘Bacha Bhai’. Sarvothaman met the Goan at a party in Goa and had been sourcing drugs from him ever since for customers in Kochi. The excise sleuths have been given the Goan’s phone number.
The excise officers were led to Sarvothaman by a small-time peddler. Sarvothaman was already in Kochi for two days when the sleuths caught up with him. The officers suspect that the accused had brought a larger consignment and sold most of it to his customers.
The large haul is an indication that a rave party is in the offing but the excise team has no plans to track down the organizers as it was not easy to catch them red-handed.
When cornered, Sarvothaman initially said he was carrying LSD. Later examinations revealed that the liquid was MDMA. Sarvothaman said he had paid his Goan supplier Rs 25,000 for what was found in his possession.
Sarvothaman buys a gram of MDMA for Rs 3,000-4,000 in Goa and sells it in Kochi for at least Rs 6,500. The small-time peddlers, such as the one who gave Sarvothaman’s identity away, makes a killing by reselling the narcotic to junkies. The retailer sold 140 milligrams of MDMA to the undercover agent for Rs 11,000.
Sarvothaman also confessed to have smuggled in narcotics from Goa in train. Judging from the contraband, he was specializing in drugs used for rave parties. A drop of MDMA liquid on tongue is capable of sending the user into a reverie that can last up to six hours.
