Thodupuzzha: A group of people, late on Thursday, tried to thwart Pembilai Orumai's protest against Kerala electricity minister M.M. Mani over his sleazy comments against the group of women plantation workers.
The attackers allegedly tried to evict the Pembilai Orumai activists from the shed they were protesting in Munnar town.
Pembilai Orumai leader Gomathy alleged that it was the CPM workers that created the ruckus. She also alleged that the group was led by a CPM area committee member.
According to television reports, the police have detained around 20 people from the scene.
The hunger strike by Pembilai Orumai activists entered its third day on Thursday. The collective said the party's action against the minister was inconsequential to them. "The fasting is not going to end until Mani tenders an apology," Gomathi said.
The activists of the collective had unleashed a stir in Munnar following derogatory comments by electricity minister, M.M. Mani targeting the collective on April 22.
