Melbourne: A Keralite woman, who is accused of killing her husband, with the help of her boyfriend has denied the charges as primary trial opened in a Melbourne magistrate court. Her boyfriend, Arun Kamalasanan, has also denied the charges.
Sam Abraham, 34, who was working at the UAE Exchange died of cyanide poisoning on October 14, 2015. His wife, Sofia, and her boyfriend were arrested after toxicology reports showed the presence of cyanide in the victim's blood.
According to prosecution, Sofia and Arun mixed cyanide in orange juice to murder Sam. Arun is also accused of having tried to murder Sam at a railway station three months earlier.

The toxicologist has told the court that the content of cyanide in Sam's blood was 35 milligram per liter. He also said cyanide was found in the victim's liver also.

The case has been referred to the Supreme Court for further proceedings after Arun and Sofia denied the charges. The Supreme Court was scheduled to hear the case on Wednesday.
Sam was found dead in the bedroom of his house where he stayed with Sofia and their 4-year-old son. Sofia reportedly convinced Sam's family that he died of a heart attack and took his body to Kerala where he was buried. She then returned to Melbourne.
Suspicion arose about the death when police began investigating the attempt to murder Sam at the railway station. They tracked telephone conversations between the two accused for nine months and collected other evidence. The Melbourne police arrested the two on August 12, 2016.
Both have been under remand ever since.
