Kochi: The Kerala police team probing the actress attack case is likely to make a crucial arrest Monday, reports said. The decision was made after a high-level meet chaired by DGP Loknath Behera on Sunday.
Though no official confirmation was made in this regard, the top cop too hinted that the arrest could be made soon. "Detaining people and arrests are part of the investigation," he told Manorama news Monday.
Behera has reportedly asked ADGP Dinendra Kashyap, who heads the probe team, to stay put in Kochi.
Main accused Pulsar Suni, who first claimed that he abducted the actress for money, later revealed a conspiracy angle in the case. Though police ignored his statements initially, the officers were able to find evidence that backed Suni's claims.
The actress attack case, which took place in February, hogged the headlines again after a letter purportedly written by or at the behest of Suni to actor Dileep came out through media reports recently.
The officers then questioned Dileep, his manager Appunni and director Nadhirshah. The police also conducted searches at Kavya Madhavan's shop Laksyah, Kakkanad.
Photos of Suni at the location of Dileep's film 'Georgettan's Pooram' emerged Sunday.
The police are probing if Suni had the help from people involved in film industry in attacking the actress.
Dileep has denied having any kind of link with Suni and accused the professional kidnapper of trying to blackmail him.
'No rift in probe team'
Responding to his predecessor T.P. Senkumar's statement, Behera said there was no rift in the investigation team. Behera asserted that reports suggesting the lack of co-ordination among the officers of the team are baseless. He said the team members worked in excellent co-ordination, and discussed every aspect of the probe.
Behera made it clear that ADGP B.Sandhya will continue to supervise the investigation.
Madam?
The police had also recorded the testimony of advocate Feni Balakrishnan, who had claimed that some people linked to Suni had met him. He said they had met him seeking help to obtain bail for Suni. Feni said they returned saying they will consult 'madam' and get back to him. However, he said he had no idea whom they were referring to.
It is likely that police will once again summon director Nadhirshah for questioning on the basis of the new evidence. There are indications that some people close to Kavya Madhavan may also be questioned.
