Sulthan Bathery: A student, who was in Wayanad district to take part in his school's felicitation after he topped the CBSE class 12 exam, met with a tragic end in a waterfall Monday.
S.S. Rosh, the 17-year-old boy from Alappuzha - who had also cleared the IIT entrance exam - was to attend the felicitation at The Green Hills Public School, Sulthan Bathery, on Tuesday.
On Monday, he joined his friends for a dip at the waterfalls in Cholamala forest area. But he slipped on the rock, fell into a whirlpool and was swept away.
Local people could not arrive for help in time as information could not be passed on swiftly in the sparsely populated area. The Fire Force arrived by 11.30 am and fished out the body after a one-and-a-half-hour struggle.
Rosh had won the second rank in Wayanad district. He had cleared the entrance exam to IIT Madras and had chosen naval architecture branch. He reached Wayanad the other day and was staying at the homestay of a classmate in Meppadi.
